The addition of nuclear submarines to Australia's naval fleet will enhance the country's security capabilities, Liberal senator Eric Abetz says. A new defence pact between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia was announced on Thursday which included an arrangement for Australia to acquire its first fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.
