Peters' Perth Cup hopes dive

Bob Peters' hopes of a clean sweep of the Perth Carnival's feature events have taken a dive with confirmation that Perth Cup favourite Midnight Blue is suffering a foot abscess. Peters explained that Midnight Blue's condition meant he would now miss Saturday's vital lead-up race at Ascot – the Group 2 Van Heemst Stakes (2100m) – a race Peters has won in six of the past seven years.
