A number of communities across New South Wales are facing "a fresh or renewed risk" of flooding this weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.

Floodplain Management Australia (FMA) said raising the wall of the dam was essential in reducing the risk of "catastrophic flooding" in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley. FMA President Ian Dinham said from past experience of Hawkesbury area that a "significant number" of people will not evacuate until it's too late.
