Welcome to Bush Week 2021! ANUSA is delighted to start the week with a welcome to country and heritage tour of the ANU, this event offers students a valuable insight into the lives of Indigenous people in Canberra and Australia at large.

State of Origin fans were thrilled by a twist to the Welcome to Country, which was delivered by Gold Coast legend Uncle John Graham. Read about it here.

The work was directed by Malinda Rutter, a proud Bundjalung, Gidhabal and Galibal woman, in partnership international creative director Jeremy Perrott.

A Welcome to Country sees traditional custodians formally welcoming others onto their land, but for Brendan Kerin, it's an opportunity to make sure the history of Indigenous Australians – and his own story – aren't forgotten.

I WOULD like to acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet, and pay my respects to their elders, past, present and emerging. We also extend that respect to other First Australians who are present here this evening.

From sports matches to Zoom meetings, it's become standard practice to begin events with a Welcome to Country or Acknowledgment of Country. But some are doing things a little bit differently to make sure all Australians understand the message.
